Looe & Polperro

Close by are the historic fishing towns of Looe and Polperro. Rich in salty atmosphere, their harbours are busy with colourful working boats. Early risers can visit the market at Looe where fish merchants choose the freshest fish for tables all over the country. There is a choice of cafés and restaurants, many specialising in local fish dishes, and a full range of shops, galleries, and small-town facilities.

Although Looe may be coming to many people’s attention as the fictional town of Shipton Abbott in the BBC’s mystery drama Beyond Paradise, it’s been a popular place for years. It’s easy to see why; as well as being a working fishing port, it’s also got a lovely sandy beach, small local shops and retailers, as well as a few smashing places to eat.

Venture a little further along the coast and you’ll find the absolute gem that is Polperro. If you’re looking for a postcard-perfect Cornish village on the coast, then this is it. Beautiful cottages cling to the steep hillsides around a small harbour with spectacular views of land and sea. It’s all 8 miles, which is around a 20 minute drive along the coast.
